What’s Out There: Notetakers

This is a video about notetakers, or PDAs specifically developed for people who are blind, or have low vision. They are not cheap, but the extra cost goes towards things like a blindness-friendly interface, a Braille display, and specialized hardware, that would not be purchased by too many people. Notetakers in this video range from $1,395 to $6,195.

Braille Notetakers

Modern day Braille Notetakers offer a range of features, including access to email, MP3 playback and web access for learners with a visual difficulty.

In the short film Lucy highlights the various features of a Braille Notetaker and how they can be used support a more inclusive e-learning experience for blind and visually impaired users.

Braille Displays

Braille displays allow blind computer users who can read Braille to read information from a computer. Braille displays work in combination with a screen reader, such as JAWS, HAL or Windows Eyes.
