Braille associations that accept donations of books and cassettes?

February 20, 2011 - 4:49 am 1 Comment

I am looking for Braille organizations that will accept donations of DVDs and cassettes in exchange for a tax deductible letter.

I also have Braille books that can be donated, but these will need to be picked up — I am located in Manhattan.

Google has turned up organizations that only accept monetary donations.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Have you tried The Talking Book and Braille Library (NY State Library)?

I understand they have accepted book donations in the past.

Has anyone joined up the dots within Braille letters to make them more recognisable to sighted people?

Braille is clearly an excellent alphabetic system, but hard for sighted people to grasp. Would joining up the dots within the Braille cells help, and, if so, has this been thought of before?

No

I know braille is made up of a configuration of six dots in a 3×2 grid. How many possible combinations could there be from this grid? Could someone who’s not useless at maths help me please!

Six points – either "up" or "down" = 2^6 = 64

I only heard this song for the first time a couple of days ago and knew that I really wanted to do a piano cover of it. I also found it slightly ironic doing this as I am learning to read Braille. So I worked it out and recorded it since I haven’t done a piano cover in a while.

Enjoy :)
