because it is cheaper to get the same button pad made for both walk-up and drive-up atms, and since the walk-up atms have to have braille, then drive-up ones do too, just because it's cheaper do make the machines that way

It’s a valid question, but the answer is dull and boring. When the guy working at the ATM factory is putting the buttons on, he simply has no idea where it’s going to end up.

And haven’t you ever driven through an ATM lane backwards, so your passenger can use it?
