Why do the ATM’s at the drive in bank have the instructions written in Braile?

Drive-up ATM buttons are marked with braille because federal regulations require it. To be specific, section 4.34.4 of the ADA Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities (Appendix to Part 1191, 36 CFR Chapter XI, issued pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) says, "Instructions and all information for use [of an automated teller machine] shall be made accessible to and independently usable by persons with vision impairments." Drive-up ATMs, unlike the walk-up variety, don’t need to be wheelchair accessible, but the rules make no exception regarding accessibility by the blind.

Some blind people have a friend drive them up to the ATM when they need cash, but would rather be independent enough to get the money out themselves. That way, they don’t have to entrust someone else with their PIN. Plus, it’s just a legal thing. ADA laws mean that everything has to be accessible.

Response 1 – Bwa ha ha ha! Good one!
Response 2 – All bank ATM instructions are written in braile. Remember, some ATMs are walk-up. When they made drive-up ATMs, they did not create new pads or buttons…they just used the same mass-produced ones from the walk-up variety.
Response 3 – For the blind man in the driver-side rear seat who wants to get money out of the bank.

For the same reason that this restaurant I used to go to had a braille sign on the wall over the high chairs just inside the first set of doors, before the second set of doors to tell blind people that if they needed assistance, just ask. Yeah. Like a blind person is going to enter that place on their own the first time, find the sign while tripping over high chairs, and go to the trouble of reading it. I hate stupidity.

The manufacturer puts braile on ALL of the keys. No matter if they are used in walk up or drive thru.
Here is one for you. I want to make a deposit at the ATM. But NOW they only will take checks for deposits. NO cash. So where do you make the deposit if you do not want to go into the bank, or the bank is closed? Not every one has a deposit box key.
