why do drive up atms have brail lettering for the blind on them????

Walk-up and Drive-up ATMs are actually identical since it is cheaper to manufacture a single version of the machine. Thus, whatever is on one is on the other.

The short and simple answer, is to ensure that if by some bizarre chance, a visually impaired person were to drive up, that they would have braille available to them.

While they may not drive, most blind people do have occasion to travel by motorcar. When they do so to accomplish their banking needs, the availability of Braille (note the spelling) on the ATMs makes it much easier for them.

ATM’s are made to be installed in many places including a drive up.Cheaper to make all buttons the same rather than making buttons for each machine.
Besides a blind person might walk up to a drive thru machine.
